The history of this former workshop dates back to the 1880’s. It’s believed to have started life as a joinery, then to store and polish shoe blakeys, and finally as the studio of a tool manufacturer. The current custodian of this split level space originally lived across the road in 1984, acquiring the completely derelict building in the 90s.  From there it became the backdrop for a far groovier lifestyle: a head office for a family olive oil company, a yoga studio, and a long stint as a recording studio.
“With the interior and major structural remedies taken care of, its been a wonderful home for me”, explains George. “The two floors of space worked so well.”
There’s more than enough room to accommodate two very good size bedrooms on the ground floor, but, for now, it’s a large open space that sits alongside a shower room/wc and a kitchenette under a wonderfully rustic staircase.
The upper level is where the space really opens up: an expansive room, full of light, with one half having a vaulted ceiling and the other a closed-off loft area used for storage. As with downstairs, there’s a world of possibilities to what you could do with this floor areas potential.
Making the north side of Clapham home has worked out very well for the outgoing keeper. It’s a very quiet street with the property itself  an oasis of silence, nestled at the rear of Hubert Grove, but head out and you’re on the doorstep of Clapham’s hip side with bars, restaurants and pubs, not to mention the excellent transport links. Clapham North is just a short walk away and from here you can catch the Northern Line to the city via London Bridge, or the a West End via Charing Cross and Waterloo. Clapham High Street station has National Rail services to Victoria.
Green open spaces aren’t too far, with Clapham Common the closest and something of a jogger’s paradise. Venture a little further and you have Tooting Bec and Wandsworth Common.
