“This was a permanent home that became our London base, but now that coastal life beckons it’s time to rent our apartment out full time”.

Mr & Mrs C have lots of happy memories to take away from this thoroughly authentic and outstanding industrial space, sat right on the Thames  on uber-chic Clink Street in Bankside. “The area was pretty edgy when we purchased, that’s what we loved about it”.

Winchester Wharf, a grade 2 listed, former grain warehouse built around 1820, sits opposite the historic ruins of the 13th century Winchester Palace and The Clink Prison Museum. This makes the street something of a Mecca for tourists, but also for foodie Londoners heading to Borough Market, just a minute away on foot.

Once you’re behind the communal front door, two flights of stairs or the lift carry you to the tranquility of this open plan apartment that would satisfy even the most seasoned warehouse purists. There’s very little wasted space across the 1150 sq ft: even the entrance lobby is big enough for you to practice your online yoga classes, or to use as a home office space.

From here you throw open the set of double doors and step into the open-plan living area. The beautifully preserved original wooden beams and pillars dominate the room providing something of a natural division between kitchen, dining and lounge areas which are, of course, surrounded by exposed brick walls.

With all the peace and quiet this room affords, it’s easy to forget you’re in London's beating heart, which makes stepping out from the living space and onto the glass balcony an immersive experience that reminds you exactly where you are, with the views of the city opposite a breathtaking experience both day and night.

Back inside, and through another set of double doors, you'll find two double bedrooms, both with exposed brick and secondary double glazed windows. The principal bedroom has fitted wardrobes and an en-suite, with the main family sized bathroom located off the main entrance lobby.

Once you’re ready to head outside, this prime central spot offers one of the best positions to tackle the immediate array of restaurants, bars and coffee shops, with the likes of Hawksmore serving up sublime steaks; El Pastor with its hugely popular and achingly authentic Mexican fayre; and The Gentleman Barista, offering coffee that’s very hard to beat.

Beyond this and the myriad other local artisan businesses, practically everywhere and everything you’d want to see, do and visit is walkable, from the Square Mile to the West End and beyond. If you love walking, try the 21 mile circuit that loops in Tower Bridge, the East End and much of Islington's canal towpath network, perfect on a Sunday morning and a firm favourite of the current owners.

London Bridge station is a short walk through Borough Market, with Northern and Jubilee Lines along with Thameslink trains between Gatwick and Luton Airports, and National Rail services to Brighton, Hastings and many more coastal and inland delights of Kent, Surrey and Sussex and head over to he comprehensive rail network from here carries you through out Kent and Sussex. The station also has a huge network of buses connecting Central, North and South London.
