An exceptional gated mews development of five freehold houses in leafy Hither Green, South East London – created, in part, from a former carpentry workshop.

This is so much more than just another new housing scheme. Every aspect of the design and architecture has been a collaboration between designer Matthias Felsch and sculptor Jeff Lowe. It represents their belief that new homes absolutely can combine style, functionality, and individuality. Jeff was keen to ensure that the houses all had dedicated creative spaces, while Matthias saw to it that, whilst there is an extraordinary amount of floor space on offer, each one is a practical home as well.

Number 3 is one of three town houses and is slightly larger at 150 square metres. As with number 2, accommodation is arranged over three spacious levels but the twist lies in its outdoor space. Rather than a top floor terrace, this house has a walled rear garden which becomes an extension of the large living area once those oversized bi-fold doors are thrown open.

On the first floor you will find two double bedrooms and two bathrooms; the minimal, clean lines balance well with the natural tones Matthias has used.

Spanning the top floor is a cavernous studio with high, beamed ceilings whose cool limed finish create a gently industrial feel. As will the other houses in the mews, this space lends itself to all sorts of activities: a gym, further reception space, vast bedroom or a studio/office that would hold a serious-sized business.

The focus of the design is very much the consolidation of home and work. the integral tech is thoroughly up to date, with Cat 6 cabling and local fibre broadband should you want it, while clever internal lighting options give total control over your environment.

This quiet corner of South East London is something of a hidden gem. It is a desirable residential location but with Hither Green Station more or less on the door step, it is a gateway to London and beyond. Trains to London Bridge, Charing Cross or Cannon Street are frequent and take around ten minutes. There is also the option for a change at New Cross for the Overground to Shoreditch and North London or head to Lewisham and grab the DLR for Canary Wharf, Stratford, or The City.

Lewisham’s constantly evolving town centre is close by. You can take a train or bus there, but it is an easy walk. There is lots on offer here in terms of shopping and eateries but, closer to home and on either side of the tracks, there is an equally impressive selection of coffee houses and places to eat and drink. Found Hope Store on Hither Green Lane offers some fine artisan fare, coffee, and wine.

You could also take cocktails at, Bobs just a few doors down. On the other side of the railway you can enjoy the food, drink, and atmosphere at the Station Hotel – something of a local landmark these days. It sits in what feels like an urban village, very quiet and also close to the green spaces at Mountsfield Park, Manor park & Manor House Gardens.
