An iconic Dutch sailing barge equipped to the highest specification. A luxurious home on an impeccably converted barge in the heart of the City with inspirational views of Tower Bridge.
MARINUS is possibly the most well-appointed historic barge currently on the River Thames. This iconic Dutch sailing barge has been impeccably refurbished and fitted to give her owners an extremely comfortable and high-specification home with stunning views of Tower Bridge and the Shard. “Marinus” has the security of a permanent mooring at Hermitage Moorings off Wapping High Street and adjacent to Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Hermitage Moorings is a secure gated site with an on-site Moorings Manager and communal space for entertaining on the main pontoon. Run as a cooperative with an active community and a home to a number of creative and interesting residents, living at Hermitage is like living in a village in the heart of London.
This unique home has an internal area of 1797 sq. ft, two/three cabins two of which have ensuite bathrooms and one of which could be used as a guest suite/staff quarters, flexible and spacious living areas, a high-end kitchen and dining room, gym/utility room, wheelhouse/reception room and large welcoming entrance hall/study area plus an impeccable engine room with state of the art domestic services. There is thoughtful and extensive storage throughout the boat. Length is 31.43m, width 6.10m, height 4.2m.
The current owners of MARINUS bought her in 2012 and took three years to completely refit the boat at the esteemed Dutch shipbuilders, SRF. The boat was totally gutted and stripped and work began with no expense spared to build a dream home. New plumbing and electrical systems were installed: new masts and rigging fitted, a completely new hull was commissioned, hardwood floors were installed throughout. After the engine was serviced and inspected, “Marinus” was then sailed across the North Sea to her mooring at Hermitage Moorings where she was fitted with bespoke cabinetry throughout the cabins, kitchen, bathrooms, and reception areas over 18 months by a team of award winning cabinet makers. The final budget for the total refit of MARINUS far exceeded the current asking price.
MARINUS is connected to mains electricity, phone/internet, fresh water, black water pump- out facilities and a post box on the mooring. The boat is heated throughout by a diesel-run boiler which runs all the radiators in five zones and heats the water. The boat is well insulated to the highest standards and takes only minutes to warm up. In addition there is a custom built ceramic masonry wood burning heater from Tichelaar in the main reception which radiates heat over 24 hours.
