Architecture & History
Woodstock Studios sits just south of Shepherd’s Bush Green, close to the Holland Park roundabout, in a pocket of West London with real depth. The building began life as a 1930s dairy before becoming part of BBC Heritage, with artists like Annie Lennox recording here. That history gives the place a quiet cultural weight, not shouted, just present.
Its reinvention in the 1990s by Jonathan Tuckey, shortly after leaving David Chipperfield, set the architectural tone that still defines it today. Exposed brick, tall volumes, generous glazing and a raw loft like character that feels more inner city warehouse than typical West London residential. It is architecture with a clear idea: honest materials, strong proportions and a sense of calm that comes from good bones rather than decoration.
Behind secure gates and a concierge, the development mixes live work units, creative studios and apartments, forming a genuine community rather than a standard block. Inside, the apartment leans into the building’s structure: Crittall style glazing, high ceilings and an open plan that lets daylight stretch across the space. It is simple, architectural and quietly confident.
Local Area & Transport
This part of Shepherd’s Bush is one of those well connected pockets where several neighbourhoods meet, with Westfield, Holland Park and Hammersmith all close by.
Shepherd’s Bush Central line station is around nine minutes on foot, with Shepherd’s Bush Market even closer at seven. That puts the Central line, Circle line and Hammersmith and City line all within easy reach. The Overground sits just beyond the Central line station, running north towards Willesden Junction and south to Clapham Junction.
Buses are frequent, including the 94, 207, 228, 237, 260 and 283, with night routes that make late returns straightforward. Drivers have the A40 Westway moments away for quick runs into town or out towards the west.
And then there is Westfield London: shops, restaurants, cinema and the transport interchange all a short walk away. It is one of those locations where everything lines up, with tubes, Overground, buses, road links and amenities making day to day life easy whether you are heading into the city, crossing town or just walking out for dinner.
