Architecture and property

Brutalistism at its finest, the Alexandra & Ainsworth Estate as it is officially known, was built by Neave Brown, the ‘borough architect for Camden in the 1960s.

Controversy surrounding the escalating cost of the estate in 1970s caused Brown to prematurely severe ties with the estate, but it remains in the words of Historic England, ”one of the most distinguished groups of buildings in England since the Second World War.”

This two bedroom split level maisonette is on the preferential side of Rowley Way with leafy views and huge terraces.

Upstairs to your open-plan living area is a well-designed space with original floor-to-ceiling terrace doors leading to a wide terrace, overlooking the central curve of the estate.

A bright kitchen to the rear of the reception has a lovely leafy view of the park. As is the case with most of these maisonettes, all the original cabinetry, tiling and surfaces remain.

Appliances included are a free-standing fridge/freezer, dishwasher, electric fan oven & hob. The washing machine is located downstairs.

On the lower level, both bedrooms are of great double size with the principle bedroom having a large built in wardrobe. The bathroom sits neatly in-between both bedrooms, and is cladded in natural wood. A sliding wall located in the hallway, divides the upstairs from downstairs wonderfully.

In addition there is a large under-stairs cupboard for extra storage.

The Alexandra & Ainsworth ‘Rowley Way’ estate has a unique feel to it; a vibrant mix of locals, professionals and families. You get to know the neighbours quickly and people look out for each other in the old fashioned way.
