Historic Notes

Built around 1810, Hope (sufferance) Wharf started life as a grain warehouse and subsequently a coal yard, craft work studio and the home of glass blower, Peter Layton. The sufferance term was associated with this and a small group of warehouses along the river which took in goods with a lower duty value. The listing status was gained around 1982 whilst the conversion to award winning residential property was completed in 1999 by architects Hawkins Brown and property developers London Town plc
Just walking the surrounding area and it’s easy to be seduced by the wonderfully preserved period architecture that give it such atmosphere.

Out and About.
St Mary Church and church yard along with the Mayflower pub, one of London’s most historic pubs are close by and both of which can be spotted from the apartments roof terrace. For your morning caffeine fix, The Watchhouse is an excellent place to visit where you can sit and enjoy the tranquillity of St Mary’s church yard gardens whilst enjoying your morning coffee. If you can tear yourself further afield, the green spaces of King Stairs Garden and Southwark Park are within walking distance. Transport Links
There’s plenty of options to propel you around the capital from here. Buses out on the main road carry you through London Bridge and beyond and access to East London is easy with The Rotherhithe Tunnel just round the corner.
Rotherhithe Overline is station is around a two minute walk connecting you with New Cross, West Croydon and Clapham in the south and the whole of North London with various connections. You can also walk to join the Jubilee Line at Bermondsey Tube Station, around eight minutes on foot.
