Think Camden, think Amy Winehouse, Camden market, indie music, lively pubs… film studios? A new chapter is about to begin in the history of Camden borough’s cultural heritage, christened Camden Film Quarter.
Walk up Kentish Town Road and you’ll see the usual supermarkets, restaurants, pubs and local shops, but at the corner of Kentish Town station, Regis Road industrial park is set for a £1 billion regeneration into the latest tv & film hub in London. Promising to mix British film’s world leading creative design with a community based urban design approach.
Yoo Capital, the company behind the Olympia redevelopment in West London in 2023 purchased the land around Regis Road industrial park and Holmes Road depot (as seen below). Having had initial plans green lit by Camden council, final plans have to be submitted and approved by 2026, prior to breaking any ground and formally acquiring the land.

A Neighbourhood Built For StoriesÂ
Dubbed a ‘mixed-use creative ecosystem’ the quarter will be at its core not just a studio complex, but an educational institution as well as providing 1,000 new homes.
As part of the scheme will be:
- Around 10 studios & soundstages will be delivered for the latest British & international film & TV production, with studio tours on offer to the public.
- Educational partnerships with National Film & Television School and the London Screen Academy to embed with the studios and curate & nuture upcoming talent.
- Around 1,000 new homes with 50% earmarked as affordable for local residents, to include green spaces, galleries and cafes.

A Win Win For Location
Emphasising working with the locals early in the process, the idea of the scheme is to create thousands of new jobs, culturally revive an area that is currently industrial and relatively redundant. This will not only put a relatively unknown part of zone 2 back on the map, but utilise great connections to the city via Kentish Town station.
There is a studio-building boom across the UK, powered by a 40% tax credit from the government for film/tv production studios, to compete alongside the likes of Netflix & Amazon funding huge studios around London.
Camden Film Quarter is completely unique given its inner Camden location, community driven approach and educational impetus. It is a real social and economic asset to the area that is already so cultural rich and diverse.
Timeline of Development
As the development is set for final submissions and masterplan, completion is proposed before the end of 2029.
Timeline as follows:

2025: Masterplan to be adopted, with detailed initial planning and pre-planning adopted. Camden have initially accepted these plans.

2026:Â Final plans to be submitted to Camden planning department.

2026-2027: If plans are accepted and green lit by Camden council, construction is set to begin in 2026.

2028: The first soundstages & studios will be operational by 2028

2029: Completion is set for before the end of the decade.
With Camden already a cultural & creative beacon on the world stage, this will only boost the area’s well known edge as a creative hub but also attract serious economic investment & social capital.
