House, what house? The ultimate in discreet living.

  • Even in London — a city with more than its fair share of discreet and understated dwellings — number 1 Queensdale Place is in a class of its own; it’s a unique home that’s perfect for those who demand privacy and discretion without sacrificing location.

  • Not only is the house itself completely hidden from the street with its own, private courtyard, it’s also detached: something that’s increasingly rare, even here in leafy Holland Park.
The current owners, Robin and Kate Bartram Brown, have refurbished the house from top to bottom, to stunning effect.

  • To maximise the space available, the ground floor is almost completely open plan with a specially designed staircase that leads up to a first floor that feels like an opulent boutique hotel.

  • “We wanted something that was industrial, but still Victorian,” says Kate, “I think the combination works really well, especially in the bathroom with its copper bath and basin set against the traditional green tiles which we got from the V&A. Actually, I think this is my favourite room; it’s a very peaceful space.”

  • Robin and Kate travel a lot for work, so for them, the location has been ideal — twenty minutes to Heathrow and a stroll to many fine restaurants and shops, all with a very village feel.
“Best of all,” adds Kate, “I always feel safe walking home late at night. This is a wonderful part of town.”
